On Wednesday 22 February 2024, the Dschang local authority held its traditional session for analysing building permit applications in the meeting room of the town hall annex building. Of the 41 applications examined, 27 received a favourable opinion and 14 were rejected for non-compliance with town planning and environmental standards.

The committee, chaired by the first deputy mayor in the absence of the Lord Mayor, was made up of representatives of the various decentralised government departments, the professional orders of engineers in Cameroon, the national fire brigade, the Divisional Officer of the Dschang Sub-division, the municipal councillor responsible for urban planning issues and the municipal architect.

The committee carried out a rigorous and meticulous assessment of the applications, taking into account the technical, legal, safety and aesthetic aspects of the construction projects. It also ensured compliance with the rules governing town planning, environmental protection and the prevention of natural and human risks.

Applicants for planning permission will be informed of the committee’s findings and the reasons for rejection. They will be given the opportunity to reformulate their applications, taking into account the committee’s observations and recommendations.

It should be emphasised that the importance of applying for planning permission before starting any building work is to guarantee the safety of property and people, as well as the quality of the living environment. The aim of this approach is not to prevent people from building, but to help them carry out their projects in accordance with current standards.

As a reminder, it is important to note that the Dschang Council is a model in terms of urban management and the promotion of sustainable development. It has won several awards for its initiatives to improve housing, preserve its cultural and natural heritage, and encourage citizen participation.
