On Tuesday July 16, 2024, Dr. Nguefack Urich, mandated by the Lord Mayor of the Dschang Council, proudly represented our prestigious municipality at the launch workshop for Component 3 of the GIZ PESOP project. The event was held at the CODAS CARITAS office in Bafoussam, in the presence of many key stakeholders.

The PESOP project (Promoting Economic and Social Participation of Internally Displaced Persons and Host Population Communities) is a joint initiative of GIZ and UNHCR, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It aims to strengthen the economic and social inclusion of internally displaced people and vulnerable members of host communities. In our region of West Cameroon, the project operates in five partner councils: Bafoussam 1st, Dschang, Foumban, Kouoptamo and Mbouda.

Component 3 of the project focuses on the socio-economic profiling of displaced persons and host populations. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is leading data collection and analysis efforts, including the registration of IDPs in collaboration with municipalities, and a sample survey to gather socio-economic data.

The launch workshop established the PESOP Strategic Committee, a collaborative advisory structure. We salute the efforts of GIZ and its partners in this essential project. German cooperation with Cameroon, and more specifically with the city of Dschang, is a fundamental pillar for sustainable development and the inclusion of all, and the standard-bearer of the mandate of challenges Lord Mayor Jacquis Gabriel KEMLEU, attaches great importance to this.
