The International Economic Days of Municipalities (JEICOM), organised for the second time by the United Councils and Cities of Cameroun (UCCC) for regional development, was held from 1 to 3 June at the Palais des Congrès in Yaounde under the patronage of the President of the Republic.
This very popular international meeting, which brought together 360 municipalities and 14 urban communities, as well as American, European, Asian, African and other investors, under the theme: “Territories faced with the imperative of food security”, saw strong participation from the Municipality of Dschang under the leadership of its Mayor, Mr Jacquis Gabriel Kemleu.
The city of Dschang’s facilities were very well attended by the many visitors who initially wanted to have a chat with the standard-bearer of the mandate of challenges and then to benefit from the rich experience of decentralisation that has been well implemented in the Dschang Council.
This initiative is an innovative project, placed under the very high patronage of the President of the Republic of Cameroon and under the supervision of the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development (MINDDEVEL) for the promotion and financing of value-added communal projects.
The special feature of this initiative lies in the establishment of a mechanism to facilitate win-win relations between decentralised local authorities and national and international economic and social partners.
The aim of JEICOM23 is to promote the harmonious and inclusive development of territories, by taking advantage of international cooperation and initiating promising development projects in sectors as varied as agriculture, agro-industry, livestock farming, fish farming, ecotourism, engineering and wood processing, as well as the implementation of social and solidarity economy projects in all the country’s cuncils. More than 500,000 visitors attended the Yaounde event, which was of great benefit to decentralised local authorities.
