On Thursday, November 07, 2024, the Meeting Room of the Technical Service of the Dschang Council hosted the Stakeholder Awareness Raising Launch Workshop on the implementation of specific and sensitive nutrition and health promotion activities. The ceremony, which marked the start of the project entitled “Access to water and basic sanitation, awareness-raising and consultation for health and nutrition in schools and extra-curricular activities in the Dschang Council”, was presided over by the Secretary General of the Dschang Council, Mr. KENFACK François, representing the Lord Mayor Jacquis Gabriel KEMLEU TCHABGOU.
This large-scale project, financed by Feicom and its partners, aims to improve basic sanitation and hygiene conditions in order to guarantee the health and nutritional well-being of pupils and teachers in schools and extracurricular activities in the Dschang Council. The ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including the MINEE Divisional Delegate for Menoua, the Head of the Dschang Health District, the Dschang Basic Education District Inspector, as well as school principals and community leaders.
In his speech, the Secretary General, on behalf of the Lord Mayor, stressed that the promotion of inclusive, quality education in a healthy environment is one of the main objectives of this challenging term of office. He also expressed the deep gratitude of the Dschang Council to the Feicom Regional Focal Point for the program, for his personal involvement in the process that led to the selection of the Dschang Council, following the call for expressions of interest launched by Feicom for Cameroon’s Decentralized Territorial Collectivities. Dschang is one of two councils selected in the Western Region.
The project has two main focuses: the construction of modern toilet blocks with boreholes and the extension of a drinking water network in two schools in the town of Dschang, and awareness-raising among pupils and teachers in 22 schools, as well as among local populations.
The launch workshop was rich in PowerPoint presentations and fruitful exchanges, followed by pertinent recommendations, laying the foundations for effective implementation of this ambitious project.
